Biden Harris New Immigration Reforms: Dreamers + DACA + Citizenship

The Biden/Harris Administration has been very tight-lipped about any specific plans they have for Immigration in 2021 and beyond. There is a lot of hope in the US that things will improve with Immigration with the new president even selecting a Cuban first-generation immigrant Alexander Mayorcas to lead the Department of Homeland Security.

This week, Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris teased a BIG IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL that her and Joe Biden’s administration plans to introduce.

· This Bill would give cards immediately to immigrants protected by the Temporary Protected Status (people from countries like i.g., El Salvador, Haiti, Nepal, Nicaragua, Syria, Yemen, and others), and to those holding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policies.

· Ms. Harris added that the administration would also try to decrease the amount of time required to acquire U.S. citizenship to eight years from 13 years by making the naturalization process more efficient.

· She also stated that they will appoint MORE immigration judges to get rid of asylum and deportations cases backlog where we, in our law practice, have cases today that won’t be heard until 2024 and already have been waiting for 5 years!

· They will take a MORE humane approach to Immigration.
GREAT NEWS too is that no matter what is happening in the country this week, USCIS is still continuing to accept Asylum, VAWA, Marriage Cases, and Citizenship applications.
