ICE AGENT FOUND DRUNK AND ASLEEP ON CALIFORNIA FAMILY’S LAWN — SHOT AFTER ALLEGEDLY ATTACKING 72-YEAR-OLD HOMEOWNER AND HIS DAUGHTER

An off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was arrested after a shocking incident in Fresno, California, where he was allegedly found intoxicated and sleeping on a family’s front lawn before physically attacking a 72-year-old man and his daughter.

The confrontation ended with the elderly homeowner shooting the ICE agent in self-defense, according to Fresno police.

WHAT HAPPENED IN FRESNO?

On October 9, 2026, at approximately 3:19 a.m., a woman returned home to discover an unfamiliar man sleeping on her front lawn.

The man was later identified as David Gonzalez, 32, an ICE agent from Texas who was off duty at the time.

The woman alerted her 72-year-old father, who came outside and attempted to get Gonzalez to leave the property.

According to Fresno police, Gonzalez appeared intoxicated and agitated when awakened. Instead of leaving peacefully, he allegedly attacked the elderly homeowner, causing visible injuries.

When the man’s daughter attempted to intervene and protect her father, Gonzalez allegedly assaulted her as well, knocking her to the ground.

Fearing for their safety, the 72-year-old homeowner pulled out his legally owned firearm and fired one shot, striking Gonzalez in the abdomen.

The woman’s boyfriend, who is an off-duty police officer, subsequently arrived and placed Gonzalez in handcuffs.

Gonzalez was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and taken into custody.

ICE AGENT FACES FELONY CHARGES — HOMEOWNER WILL NOT BE PROSECUTED

Fresno police confirmed that Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of felony offenses, including assault-related charges.

Authorities determined that the elderly homeowner was legally carrying his firearm and acted in defense of himself and his daughter.

The 72-year-old homeowner is not facing criminal charges.

Police are still investigating why Gonzalez, an ICE agent from Texas, was in the Fresno neighborhood in the middle of the night.

There has been no confirmed explanation for his presence on the family’s property.

INCIDENT RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT ICE ACCOUNTABILITY

The incident comes amid heightened immigration enforcement operations throughout California’s Central Valley.

Local officials have expressed concerns about aggressive federal immigration enforcement activities in the region.

Fresno City Councilmember Mike Karbassi called for ICE to suspend its ongoing operations in the Central Valley following the incident.

The case raises serious questions about accountability, supervision, and the conduct of federal immigration enforcement personnel.

ICE agents are not above the law. Federal law enforcement officers can face criminal consequences for unlawful conduct, including actions committed while off duty.

While the allegations against Gonzalez remain subject to the legal process, the incident demonstrates the importance of independent investigations when federal officers are accused of misconduct.
