WHAT NOT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE STARTING TO DATE AFTER DIVORCE

💔 Recently divorced? STARTING TO DATE AFTER DIVORCE: What to do, and what not to do – advice from a seasoned divorce attorney.

1️⃣ Don’t jump into a new relationship after your divorce. Take time to grieve about the divorce and losing your status of being a husband or wife, being in a marriage. Wait until your separation or divorce is final.

2️⃣ Don’t take the baggage of your divorce situation into the new relationship.

3️⃣ After divorce, do YOU for a while. Learn a new craft, take up a new sport, learn to paint, travel the world, race some cars, do some charity work. Do good things for yourself. Post-divorce, you deserve love, and that starts with self-love.  You can start a new life for yourself after divorce.

4️⃣ Again, learn to love yourself, post-divorce. Maybe you cheated in the past or did other bad things in your marriage. That does not mean you are a horrible person and don’t deserve to be happy with a new spouse. Understand why you did what you did. Forgive yourself and move on. Only when you understand why what happened in your marriage can you truly become a good partner for a new person. Life gets better after divorce from an unhealthy (or unsafe) marriage. Eat up every moment of it. Don’t isolate yourself from your positive, married friends; let them fuel your new, positive outlook.

5️⃣ When you meet a great new person – grab him or her and don’t let fear of failure from the past block you. A failed marriage or other failed relationships should only encourage you starting over fresh and create the new relationship of your dreams. Be optimistic!
